VISITOR SIM provides data communication service. There is NO voice communication service (To have voice service in Japan, customers are required to have an ID with a Japanese address to prevent criminal use of the mobile phone).
3GB/15DAYS is valid for 16days (15days + 1 Service Start day) or up to 3GB whichever comes first.
6GB/30DAYS is valid for 31days (30days + 1 Service Start day) or up to 6GB whichever comes first.
The service will stop. If you want to continue to use the internet, you can charge 1GB ( 1day/ ¥500) from “Online Charge”page.
You can always check your data usage and service period by accessing to "Online Charge" page.
Service Start Date is the date when you started using your SIM card.
You do not need any activation, but you'll need to set the APN to your device.
The APN (Access Point Name) is a network path for all cellular data connectivity. By setting the APN,your device allows you to use VISITOR SIM.
If you don’t set the APN, you can not use VISITOR SIM.

No you cannot make phone calls.
VISITOR SIM is data communication only. You cannot use it to make phone calls or receive and send SMS nor MMS.

There is no penalty or extra charge for not returning the SIM card.
You can use devices which have the following 3 requirements.
1) Unlocked
2) Support one of the following frequency
LTE Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz), Band 21 (1500MHz)
W-CDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz)

The VISITOR SIM should not be sold to a 3rd party.

The charge period is up to 10 days after the expiration date.
It should take no longer than 5 min.
If you are returning to Japan within the rechargeable period (10 days after the expiration date), then you will be able to use your existing SIM card.
However, if you are returning past the chargeable period, you will need to purchase a new SIM card.
Please make sure to access the Online Charge page with your VISITOR SIM inserted in your device and make sure that the WiFi is turned off.

Unfortunately we cannot issue you a new SIM card.
You will need to purchase a new card.
Please contact Japan Experience (Telephone: +81 (0)75 752 3518) and let us know your SIM phone number so that we may check the condition of your SIM. In our experience it is fairly rare that the SIM card is faulty and in most cases the problem lies in the set up of the SIM in the respective device.
Even when your service is temporary suspended, the service period cannot be extended.
